  • IMO we need a Department of Digital Fluency, Competence, and Oversight.

Basically a department tasked on making sure government policies don’t lead to fuck ups on dumb shit like miscounting underscores and going on a wild goose chase. (I might be confusing this instance with a different but similar one)

Besides providing oversight on legislation, internal policies, and judicial investigations; they could also provide mandatory training to any legislators or officials.

We simply can’t be trusting these dusty ass judges, life appointed senators, or anyone with tenured employment to maintain the digital fluency todays world necessitates.

  • Avi is a step in the right direction but I agree NDP is still way too “LPC-lite.”

Cuz yea exactly. A NDP with vision would be pushing small business in tandem with social safety net programs. Empowering people to help themselves.

I’m not blind to the fact that Carney’s economics carves out a big chunk of our productivity for the same Epstein-billionare class that is destroying the planet.

But in the face of MAGA-USA imperialism the NDP is not a hill I’m willing to die on.

  • So the author is blaming Carney for the job losses US tarriffs are causing; Is upset Carney isn’t expanding the EI program, and then accuses Carney of corporatizing Canada for short term miniscule reprieve.

This is what I mean when I say a lot of progressives have lost the plot: Our entire political discussion for most Canadians’ living memory has occurred in the sandbox of US hegemony. Carney didn’t destroy that, Trump did. Carney is diversifying the supply chains Trump is using to threaten us.

The author calls for an alternate response to Trump based on working class solidarity. But they undermine their own credibility by calling Carney our enemy instead of actually being the response they’re calling for.

I’m not giving Carney a free pass, but I voted for someone who could mitigate the harm MAGA-USA is causing and Carney is doing exactly that. As much as I’ll be voting (indirectly) for Avi Lewis next federal election, the fact of the matter is that NDP under Singh wasn’t up to this task.

After Carney has done his job the NDP can step in and fix our domestic policies.

  • I think some progressive people are losing the plot and forgetting the bigger picture. There is a global, historical, and logistical context to all of this.

As much as I would have preferred a NDP government, with a strong socialist platform; if that were to result in supply chain breaks several years later that prevent my loved ones from getting their life saving medications or medical devices… I would regret that vote.

I foresee 2 major global supply chain interruptions on the horizon:

    1. Global food supply - climate change

    2. Global electronics supply - China invading Taiwan

Once those supply chains break our ability to build new ones before there is a considerable human cost, becomes very questionable. So like yes we need to hold Carney accountable to his environmental and ethical promises; BUT this blanket opposition to everything he does is IMO misguided, short sighted, and lacks alternative solutions.

We need to mobilize in a way that’s productive, not just reactive and obstructive.

  • It will end when America ends. I said this on July 19, 2016 when Trump first won the GOP nomination: “Historians will mark this day specifically as the beginning of dissolution of the united states of America.”

Mark my words, Trump’s death will trigger a doubling down on fascism to fill the vacuum left by his populism. They will exact revenge on anyone who celebrated Trumps death, just like after Charlie Kirk died. The concentration camps full of ‘immigrants’ will be vacated to make room for the political enemies of the Post-Trump-Regime.

The USA as we know it is in it’s final decade. What’s happening now will be taught in history books right after the chapter on Nazi Germany.
