I wish when journalists and commentators discussed the USA and its language about annexing Canada, they would speak in those terms.
Using the expression “the 51st state”, affirms an ontological existence of such a thing. I think that’s a semantic concession that shouldn’t be made, certainly not by any Canadian, or by anyone who wants world stability, order, and sanity.
