Uh… that’s news to me. I’ve been hosting 2 user’s photos for 1.5 years with absolutely zero breaking changes. I just updating from v2 to v3 and nothing broke.

My backup plan:

• primary - a ZFS server at my house
• secondary - an offsite ZFS server at a relative’s house
• primary takes ZFS snapshots periodically and sends encrypted snapshots to secondary
• both are connected via netbird

The primary server is actually a bigger more powerful desktop, while the secondary is just a small, power-efficient, weak NAS that’s just for storage. Small is good so you can hide it and it doesn’t annoy your family member.

Ooh, the workflows idea is interesting.

What I really want is for my photos to expire.

Most of the photos I take are junk photos: a picture of a receipt, a picture of a sprinkler model number, a picture of a random bug I saw while I was cleaning the pool. I just need these photos once and then I never need them again. I wish they would go away on their own.

Of course, there are also times when I do want to keep pictures, birthdays, vacations, etc.

I wish Immich (or someone) would create a camera with a switch that allows you to pre sort images into albums: permanent vs temporary

Of course, the Big Tech guys would never do this because they want you to store all of that junk on their clouds.

But, Immich could actually help trim junk.

I’m in favor of heavy AI users adding an [AI] tag to their posts. I don’t think we have to worry too much about AI users trying to pass their work as organic. Almost all AI users I know proudly and annoying shout about how great the AI is. So I think only a minority of AI users would try to hide their AI usage.

I think we should encourage users to add [AI], but also make it voluntary. We need people to complain in the post when someone doesn’t add the [AI] tag, but they should have. I’m guessing here, but I think the more people complain about the missing [AI] tag, the more likely the project used more AI. I’m guessing if the AI usage is low, like 1 or 2 commits out of 1000, then not as many people would complain.

Also. I have a Jellyfin instance that I share with family, where I actually can’t put all of their client devices behind Netbird.

For that case, I used Netbird’s reverse proxy feature. So technically the Jellyfin instance is exposed to the public internet. HOWEVER, Netbird allows you to block or allow certain IP addresses. So while my Jellyfin instance is technically on the public internet, it’s only accessible from 1 specific public IP.

Otherwise, if you’re on the Netbird VPN, then the domain I have set resolves to the internal IP.

Yeah, hosting your own email server is pretty tough.

I think something like https://migadu.com/ might be more in the middle of hosting your own server and purely using someone else’s frontend.
