We actually have a Trump Lake that we could rename. As you would expect, it’s a small and insignificant body of water that no one would care about if it wasn’t named that. It would be nice to point that out as we ostentatiously redesignated it with whatever its original Indigenous name was.
Assuming that he actually wrote it (rather than putting his name to a ghostwritten manuscript), all that would mean is that he’s smarter than Trump. Thing is, intelligence doesn’t win elections—in fact, it often seems like the last thing Americans want is to elect anyone with two brain cells to rub together. Whether Vance can win over MAGAts without Trump acting as a smokescreen remains to be seen. I’m not saying it’s impossible, just that we lack sufficient evidence as yet.

Often, what that means is, “We have some stupid “security” requirement that a third party has convinced us to write in despite us not really needing it.” Usually, it’s for something invasive that can be bypassed by people with enough patience and time on their hands (= high schoolers) if the source code can be modified.

The article doesn’t state what it means by “average”, but given that the income figure it sees as “average” is north of $120000, I’d bet it’s looking at mean and not median. Which means their data is skewed by a few high earners and automatically worthless.
(That’s completely aside from the fact that paying taxes isn’t losing money; it’s funding road maintenance, clean drinking water, firefighting, and all those other services everyone, even the rich, needs and uses.)
You can’t simply pin all of this on global warming. It’s a factor, but not the only one.
Global warming wasn’t responsible for the sewage leak (sewage and water treatment issues leading to evacuation are very common on the northern reservations—Kashechewan was also hit this year—and they should be 100% avoidable). And it’s only partially responsible for the evacuations due to spring flooding that have been hitting some of these communities yearly for decades. Even if the temperature worldwide magically returned to preindustrial levels this instant, these communities would still need to be evacuated unreasonably often. They need firefighting and flood remediation and better options for infrastructure repairs and replacement.
Neskantaga in particular is only accessible by air most of the year, which means that it’s difficult to get people and manufactured goods into and out of the community. This makes everything from infrastructure repairs to getting any kind of mental health support for any reason more difficult.

I admit that I no longer keep track as I used to thirty years ago. Unfortunately, the information burden has gotten to be just too much, so I admit that said information does have to bubble to the surface in some venue more widely distributed than the author’s social media account before I notice it.
Thing is, though, 70% of the people boycotting the most visible 30%—even 20%—of the artists who express bigoted sentiments is likely to be more useful in curbing the expression of those sentiments than 5% of the people boycotting 100% of them. It’s a much clearer indicator to other artists that no, this crap isn’t acceptable.
I’m willing to separate the art from the artist after the artist is deceased and can’t cause more damage. I’m not willing to divorce the two while the artist is still alive and making money off their art while making the world around them a worse place.
Yes, that’s another workable solution, but one that requires more planning and upfront investment (and possibly negotiation with landowners in some areas). For the two-plus years it would take to get the additional fountains through city budgeting, planning, finding contractors etc, the bottled water would still be needed.
The problem is that the other measures may not be enough for some people to avoid heat stroke.
Filling stations require you to have an existing reasonably clean bottle to fill. Drinking fountains require there to be one located within a reasonable distance to whatever else you’re doing. And some of the people who were being given the bottled water were drug-addicted or metally ill and off their meds, which might not exactly do wonders for their planning ability.
Handing out bottled water isn’t really the best way to fill the gaps, but it’s easy to get bottled water, so the only problem is deciding how to pass it out. Any other solution requires more upfront planning, and likely more investment.
