Ha! Unless he’s been replaced by the pod people in the past couple of weeks I do not think that is likely. I would be betting on Trump doing what he always does rather than Carney doing what he always doesn’t.

Poilievre did a great job keeping the Conservatives out of power for a while. It was just bad luck for Canada that he did such a good job of it that the Liberals got a majority.

[some random tech bro] suggested that based on its size, the data centre proposal before the city was unlikely to be an AI data centre, claiming it wouldn’t be economically viable. A quick search of Ontario’s corporate registries determined the owner of the land also runs an AI software company.

AI software companies are not going to hesitate to do a thing just because it’s not economically viable.

Just common sense innit? You’ve got more money, you get more votes. It’s practically a law of nature. Trying to enforce some other system would be going against the natural order of things. It’s the best way to maximise shareholder value.

A timely reminder to the government that while it’s not as exciting as jetting around the world kibitzing with your G7 friends about the latest wars, running the post office is still your job. Get on with it.

It may be true that Canada is behind some of its peers when it comes to spying on its own citizens and making secure communications illegal, but this bill would go beyond “catching up” and would put our country near the top of the list of the worst offenders among countries normally thought of as democracies.

No acknowledgement from this writer that extremely rapid population growth passed a threshold where people finally became aware that it was causing problems. It’s not too surprising, many still refuse to see it.

What I do find surprising for someone aiming to represent “the left” is the unqualified defence of the temporary foreign workers program.

I left r/canada even before I left reddit. The final straw was when I saw links to a report from Citizen Lab, a very respectable Canadian research group at U of T, about a foreign government interfering in Canadian affairs, getting deleted for not being “relevant to Canada.”
