What changes are they making to always free?
On the client side, tempus is the best Android app I’ve found for interacting with a navidrome server.
I feel like I’ve never heard anything but complaints about the all-in-one image.
On the other hand, I’ve been using the community maintained docker image for a few years with minimal issues.

It looks like https://www.kendomanager.com/ bills itself as a free alternative to Basecamp. That might be along the lines of what you want, but I haven’t tried it myself. Very much not free.
