I’m very happy with Kavita running in Docker. I’ve used it through the Web UI and KOReader on both phone and Kobo. All work great. I manually download books and fix the metadata on them though so YMMV.

In my living room, Kodi. On PC, Strawberry Music Player. On android phone, Musicolet.

Here’s how to install KOReader on Kobo

Here’s the Kavita wiki page about KOReader that includes how to set up progress sync

Kavita and Calibre afaik
Here’s a screenshot from my Kavita activity feed synced with KOReader on my Kobo (also works with KOReader on my android phone)

There are already many self hosted services that can do this without vibe coding.
Also, KOReader already syncs reading progress over OPDS without a plugin.

The technical term is “spicy pillow” :D

LMAO spot on!

I don’t have any issue with it myself, I think it’s a great idea.
These acronyms I’ve never seen before and have never been used by the bot:
a11y
i18n
l10n
Works for me too (on Mullvad - Brussels).

I completely agree. I just thought it important to be accurate with these criticisms.
Good on ya for the edit :)

According to the article you linked it isn’t. They platformed him but it isn’t owned by him and he doesn’t work for them.

I think people are entitled to complain. They’re just not entitled to be listened to.
But then there is this knee-jerk raging about stuff. If the guy doesn’t disclose it he’s AN EVIL AI USER who’s hiding it. If he does disclose it he’s AN EVIL AI USER who’s even worse because he must be proud of it. In amongst this nobody has any clue if he’s just used Claude to check his work, do his work for him, or somewhere in between.
For the record, if he is proven to be using AI to code the project then sure, everyone pile on, I’ll join you and he’ll deserve it.

This post is so needlessly aggressive and assumptive.

To me, self hosting means the service runs on your hardware and is entirely un-reliant on anyone else’s.
Convenient you left out the context where it clearly means “the service is un-reliant on anyone else’s hardware to run”. It clearly doesn’t mean un-reliant on anyone, anywhere.

100% agree. Well said.

FYI decibels are a logarithmic scale so for example 18-24dB is a smaller difference than 24-30dB. That said, some HDD noise is noticeable to some people and not to others. All you can really say is that enterprise drives are loudest followed by NAS drives then regular consumer ones.
